Ohio State one of top 3 schools for a 4-star ATH

Class of 2018 ATH, Jermaine Eskridge (Tampa, Fla. / Jefferson), announced his list of top ten schools, in order, yesterday on Twitter. The four-star athlete already holds scholarship offers from 33 different schools, and he is only a sophomore in high school. Luckily for the Buckeyes, the team landed in the top three of his list of 10.

Early on in his recruitment, Eskridge was committed to Kentucky. However, after offers started pouring in, the 6 foot 3 inch, 180-pounder decided to decommit from the program late last year.

Ohio State follows North Carolina and Miami on the wide-receiver's list, and tops hometown schools Florida and Florida State, with Alabama closely behind. Eskridge's recruitment will be one to follow, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him gain a fifth star by multiple recruiting databases by the time everything is said and done.

    Eskridge in for FNL

The list of top prospects set to visit Ohio State for their annual Friday Night Lights camp this month increased by one. Class of 2018 athlete Jermaine Eskridge (Tampa, FL / Jefferson) confirmed to 247Sports’ Bill Kurelic that he would indeed make the trip up from the Sunshine State to be in Columbus, Ohio for the event.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder told Kurelic that he spoke with new Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano early Wednesday morning to confirm the visit plans.

Eskridge is currently graded out as a four-star prospect in next year’s recruiting class and is listed as the 130th overall player. The Tampa native is also slotted as the seventh best athlete in the country and the 21st best player in the always talented state of Florida.

Eskridge was formerly a Kentucky commitment but backed off of his pledge to the Wildcats back in November of last year. For where he stands with the Buckeyes, Eskridge does have an offer from Ohio State. Additionally, Eskridge holds offers from over 45 other schools, including Alabama, Georgia and the Florida Trio (Miami, Florida and Florida State).

We will see if the Buckeyes can make a move with the Floridian during the visit later this month.

Ok now Jermaine Eskridge is committed to South Florida

So after he had a top three (on Tuesday) that turned into a top five (on Wednesday), Jefferson High School (Tampa) 2018 athlete Jermaine Eskridge now, apparently, has a top one: he committed to USF during a visit on Thursday afternoon.

Ok, so what gives? Where is this very talented, yet seemingly confused, athlete getting his advice? His mom told him to add two more schools to his list, but is he getting help about how to handle his recruitment from his coaches at Jefferson? After already committing to Kentucky – and decommitting a year ago – and now seemingly committing to USF just because he wanted to commit somewhere this week, it doesn’t appear so.

“Nobody,” one source said when asked who is mentoring Eskridge. “That’s the problem. A lot of the coaches (in Florida) are more immature than the kids.”

Expect more dramatics in Eskridge’s recruitment before signing day in 2018.

    Florida recruiting, right?

    SURPRISE, SURPRISE

Less than a month after committing to South Florida out of the blue, four-star Tampa athlete Jermaine Eskridge has reopened his recruitment.

You'll recall that the week leading up his announcement was quite bizarre, as Eskridge initially revealed a Top 3 list of Alabama, Miami and Ohio State. He then added two more schools, Florida and Oregon, at his mother's insistence. Finally, a day after he was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Coumbus, he committed to USF while on campus.

Eskridge, who is considered the No. 10 overall athlete in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports Composite, clearly made an emotional decision based on the fact that several other local Tampa kids pledged their services to the Bulls that week.

He was the 11th commit in a span of six days, which includes former Ohio State commit Bruce Judson.

    A TANGLED WEB WE WEAVE

Nothing should come as a surprise in the ever-changing world of recruiting, but this summer was quite bizarre for Tampa, Florida, Jefferson four-star athlete Jermaine Eskridge.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder included Ohio State in his Top 3 alongside Alabama and Miami (FL) in late July, but added Florida and Oregon at his mother's insistence the next day. He was then scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Columbus just one week later, but called off the trip and instead committed to South Florida out of the blue.

Eskridge — the 14th-best athlete and the No. 215 prospect in the Class of 2018 — reopened his recruitment in August, citing an emotional decision based on the fact that several other recruits from the Tampa area pledged their services to the Bulls that week.

Now that he's had several months to reassess the situation, Eskridge has begun to narrow things down once again.

As you can see, Eskridge listed Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, USC, West Virginia and Wisconsin in his Top 9. And while I don't expect him to ultimately pick the Buckeyes, there are certainly plenty of fireworks yet to come.

    BACK AGAIN

Last summer featured quite a few twists and turns for Tampa, Florida, Jefferson four-star athlete Jermaine Eskridge, as he included Ohio State in his Top 3 alongside Alabama and Miami (FL) in late July and then added Florida and Oregon into the mix the following day at his mother's insistence.

He was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Columbus one week later, but called off the trip at the last minute and instead committed to South Florida out of the blue.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Eskridge reopened his recruitment less than a month later, claiming he made an emotional decision based on the fact that several other local recruits pledged their services to the Bulls that week. But now that he's had several months to wisely reassess his recruitment, Eskridge has started to narrow things down once again, listing Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State in his Top 7.
Eskridge, also a one-time Kentucky commit, is considered the 16th-best athlete and No. 247 prospect overall in the Class of 2018. He had 39 receptions for 668 yards and six touchdowns to help the Dragons to the state regional semifinals last season.

While it's hard to predict how Eskridge's recruitment will play out, this roller-coaster ride is far from over.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF JERMAINE ESKRIDGE

In yesterday's edition of The Hurry Up, I mentioned how Tampa, Florida, Jefferson three-star athlete Jermaine Eskridge announced he would attend Ohio State's Spring Game on Saturday, the same day he plans to make his college decision.

Things got a little bit more interesting on Tuesday afternoon, when Eskridge narrowed down his more than 50 scholarship offers to Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State.

If you're unaware of how we got this point, I offer a brief recap:

Though he'd never been on campus, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Eskridge included Ohio State in his Top 3 alongside Alabama and Miami (FL) last summer. He then added Florida and Oregon back into the mix the following day at his mother's insistence.

Eskridge, a one-time Kentucky commit, was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Columbus one week later, but called off the trip at the last minute and instead pledged his services to South Florida out of the blue.

A month went by before Eskridge reopened his recruitment, claiming he made an emotional decision based on the fact that several other local recruits pledged their services to the Bulls that week.

    So here we are.

Eskridge said he'll be on campus on Saturday, which would certainly make a rather interesting backdrop for a commitment to another school. But quite frankly, I won't believe he'll make the trip until I see him walk out of the tunnel with the other recruits on Saturday.

Ohio State remains among the favorites for several higher-rated wideouts who are also better fits within the offensive scheme, so Eskridge probably isn't a take at this moment in time — which leaves Oregon and Penn State.

I made 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction this afternoon in favor of the Ducks, and for two reasons: 1. Eskridge already committed to Oregon head coach Willie Taggart when he was at South Florida, and 2. His good friend Bruce Judson, a former Ohio State commit, signed with the Ducks in February.

Any other result doesn't make much sense.

Eskridge might visit Saturday, says he’ll commit Saturday

Florida 2018 3-star athlete Jermaine Eskridge is apparently going to visit Ohio State this weekend, according to a deleted tweet.

Eskridge has had one of the strangest recruitments in the 2018 class. He committed to Kentucky as a freshman. He de-committed. Last summer, he planned a trip to Ohio State and listed a “Top 7” before committing to South Florida on July 28. He de-committed from the Bulls three weeks later.

The Tampa Jefferson High School star went off the grid before naming a new top seven about a month ago … in a tweet that was promptly deleted.

Now Eskridge says he’s coming to Ohio State, a visit that apparently will be used as a backdrop for – you guessed it – his commitment.

If Eskridge is planning to commit to Ohio State on Saturday, it would be a major surprise to those who follow recruiting for a living — and to people close to the Ohio State football program. Do not expect a commitment from him to the Buckeyes this weekend.
