Sheffer calls Ohio State his ‘best visit yet’
Ohio State wants two tight ends in its 2018 class and this weekend hosted one target from Florida who could be a real contender to fill a spot.

“It was great,” Zach Sheffer, out of Ponte Vedra Beach, told Land of 10. “Best visit yet.”

That’s fairly direct and to the point, no? For Sheffer and his family, the chance to see what the Buckeyes coaching staff does up close and personal really stood out.

“We spent a lot of time with the coaches and players, as well as touring the facilities and campus,” he said. “We were there from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and then 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Then we had dinner with the coaches on Saturday night.”

Urban Meyer, Kevin Wilson and Ryan Day all were involved in that dinner and the majority of the weekend with the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Sheffer. He also spent time on Saturday night with a pair of young Buckeyes.

“I hung out with Jake (Hausmann) and Nick (Bosa),” he said. “I went to the tight end meeting Saturday morning prior to practice and met all of the tight ends. Everyone was cool.”

For many Florida standouts, “cool” is something that has to be dealt with on a visit to Ohio State. Sheffer says the weather wasn’t a problem.

“It was chilly but I’m not concerned about the weather,” he said. “I like cold weather, no big deal.”

Ohio State made a big move up the list for Sheffer, who has offers from 25 other schools and has previously visited Michigan and South Carolina. There’s still a way to go before the 3-star tight end makes a college decision but he does hope to return to Columbus this summer before committing anywhere.

“Coach Meyer said he wants me back in June,” Sheffer added. “I’ll talk to my parents and hopefully get back up here. I’ve got a few more visits scheduled before I start spring football. I’ll see how spring goes then hopefully cut my list and make a decision prior to my season starting.”
