    Brian Snead
After missing some time this season due to injury, Snead, a OSU class of 2018 pledge, was back in uniform for Armwood High (FL) against Chamberlain on Friday.

Rated as one of the top running backs in the junior class, the four-star standout proved he can back the off the field accolades on it. Toting the rock 18 times, Snead rushed for 162 yards against the Chiefs defense to help pace Armwood to a 33-0 shutout victory.

The 2018 running back didn’t rack up the numbers like he did last Friday, but still had a pretty stellar game overall.

Al though Snead, and his Armwood (FL) squad took one of the chin from Plant High, 29-27, the four-star junior rushed for 60 yards, and three touchdowns for the Hawks.

Committed (1): Brian Snead | ★★★★ | Seffner (Fla.) Armwood

When Brian Snead committed to Ohio State at Friday Night Lights last July, not a lot of people knew much about him. Now, almost seven months later, a lot of people still don’t know much about Snead. He’s remained relatively anonymous since his verbal, which is unusual for a player that is 1.) out of Florida and 2.) the country’s fourth-ranked running back.

Despite his ranking, its quite possible that folks don’t really know how good Snead is capable of being.

He’s got a college-ready frame, and though he’s just 5-foot-11, Snead has a long stride that gets him to top speed quickly. He’s a capable receiver out of the backfield and has not visited any other schools since his commitment. For a Florida high school star, that’s very rare.

With the current state of affairs at Ohio State, it’s wise to at least plan for Mike Weber’s NFL departure after the 2017 season. That leaves just Antonio Williams and J.K. Dobbins as true running backs on the Buckeyes roster and Demario McCall helping them out from the slot/H-back position. In our mind, that means Ohio State needs to sign two pure running backs and a slot/H-Back type of player in 2018.

Signing three “running backs” in one class may sound far-fetched, but you need only look back a few years to the last time it happened: 2013. Ohio State signed Ezekiel Elliott, Dontre Wilson and Jalin Marshall in that class and all three stuck it out in Columbus, so it’s been done before. The difference was that class featured one pure running back and two slots/H-Backs.

I could see him signing somewhere else, especially if/when Jaelen Gill commits.

I don't think Gill would make him look elsewhere since Gill would play the Samuel role. But Zamir White? Yeah

Brian Snead invited to Polynesian Bowl

In case you’ve forgotten, Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) 4-star running back Brian Snead is committed to Ohio State. The country’s fourth-ranked tailback committed verbally to the Buckeyes last July and has vanished from the recruiting scene since.

Today, he reappeared, albeit briefly. It was announced that Snead will participate in the 2018 Polynesian Bowl, set for Jan. 20 in Hawaii.

Snead will join a handful of the country’s best prospects in Hawaii — and, hopefully, me because that would be a good trip to take following the College Football Playoff — in this, the newest of the All-America Games. The Polynesian Bowl has begun to attract interest from recruits because its later date allows players to participate in it as well as another game, such as the Under Armour All-America Game or the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Some Ohio State targets, including Jeremy Ruckert and Micah Parsons, also will make the trek.

There seemingly are few players in the country more private than Snead, who has not returned to Columbus since he committed following the Buckeyes’ 2016 version of Friday Night Lights. Snead told Land of 10 recently that his silence is by design.

“Things are going pretty good,” he said. “I’m just working hard.”

As you’d expect, other schools still hope to sway the 5-foot-11, 200-pound tailback. So far, Snead has avoided their overtures, thanks to help at his high school.

“My coach keeps them off me,” Snead said. “So I’m good.”

    A LOAD OF QUACK

Ohio State's other running back pledge, four-star Brian Snead, has been the subject of rumors ever since he committed to the Buckeyes out of the blue at Friday Night Lights last July. He hasn't been on any other visits, is not very active on social media and doesn't conduct many interviews, which leaves room for interpretation in today's crazy world of recruiting.

Snead has remained strong in his commitment to Ohio State, yet rumors of a flip have once again hit message boards — and this time, Oregon is his rumored destination.

Snead's teammate, four-star wide receiver Warren Thompson committed to the Ducks last week, becoming the third bay area prospect from the Class of 2018 to pledge his services to the program. He joins Wesley Chapel four-star cornerback Isaiah Bolden and Tampa Bay Tech three-star defensive tackle Jonathan King, which is significant given Oregon is now coached by former USF head man Willie Taggart.

The Ducks also landed Snead's former teammate at Armwood, athlete Darrian McNeal, and Pinellas Park defensive lineman Jordon Scott in this year's recruiting class.

Nothing — of course — is imminent, and the rumors are more so the product of reporters and message board members connecting the aforementioned dots. If Snead visits Oregon, then there may be legs to this. Until then, well, I suggest paying them no mind.
