Woodbey will not visit this week

Another week has passed and once more, there’s no good news for the Buckeyes and their hopes to get California’s Jaiden Woodbey, the country’s 30th-ranked 2018 prospect, on campus for a visit.

“No, I won’t be visiting this week,” Woodbey told Landof10. “Soon, but I’m not sure when.”

Woodbey was scheduled to visit for Friday Night Lights on July 22 but was unable to find anyone that could make the trip with him and unfortunately that still appears to be the case. He’s got the Buckeyes on the top of his list and is working hard to arrange a visit but to this point it’s just not been able to happen.

There is, however, a date that seems to make sense.

St. John’s Bosco travels to Cincinnati to play St. Xavier at Nippert Stadium on August 27, so there’s a chance that Woodbey could be making the short drive up I-71 to see Columbus as opposed to making the long flight from California.

    Stay tuned.

    WOODBEY ISSUE

Five-star safety Jaiden Woodbey has eyed an unofficial visit since Ohio State offered him a scholarship in June, just one week before his St. John Bosco teammate, Wyatt Davis, pledged his services to the Buckeyes.

The distance between his hometown of Bellflower, California, and Columbus has made it quite difficult for Woodbey to visit campus, however, so Saturday's game against St. Xavier in Cincinnati seemed like the perfect chance that to happen.

Unfortunately, Woodbey told Eleven Warriors he was unable to make the short trip up Interstate 71 this weekend.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder has a rather impressive list of scholarship offers from 17 of the top schools in the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee and USC. Fifty percent of 247Sports Crystal Ball projects have him landing with the Trojans, for whom his uncle played.

Five-star S is big on the Buckeyes
With limited space in the 2017 recruiting class, Ohio State has started working on next year’s class. One of the prospects the Buckeyes seem to be most interested in is five-star safety, Jaiden Woodbey (Upland, CA / St. John Bosco).

Woodbey is regarded as one of the best players in his class, currently 247Sports has him listed at No. 26 overall. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety holds nearly 20 scholarship offers and that number will only increase in the next year.

Fortunately for the Buckeyes, Adam Gorney of Rivals.com reported Monday, that both Ohio State and LSU are the two programs “standing out most” to him right now.

USC and Washington are also looked at as potential landing spots for the elite prospect.

Woodbey will narrow list – and commit – soon
The Buckeyes were – at one time – the leader for 2018 5-star safety Jaiden Woodbey from Bellflower, Calif. That was months ago, and at the time Woodbey was planning to visit Ohio State with his teammate and Buckeyes commitment, Wyatt Davis. Now, the list of schools the country’s 18th-ranked prospect has interest in has grown considerably, but he says it’s getting close to time to narrow it down again.

Woodbey, a USC legacy, has attempted to visit multiple times over the last few months but has not been able to arrange it. That remains the case for this coming weekend.

“No, sadly, I won’t make it,” Woodbey said when asked if he’d make the trip to Ohio this week. “I wish I was.”

Now the big question is this: If a list-cutting process happens, followed by a commitment, do the Buckeyes, sans visit, even have a shot? Woodbey says they still do.

“They have a strong shot,” Woodbey added.

Outside of USC, a few other Pac-12 schools have really shot up the list for the 6-foot-2, 205 pound safety. Expect Washington, which Woodbey visited the weekend of Nov. 17, to be in the mix.

    SEEING CLEARLY

Bellflower, California, St. John Bosco four-star safety Jaiden Woodbey will no longer reveal his top schools Tuesday evening as he had previously planned to do.

"I want to focus more on me being a better football player than being caught up in the recruiting process," Woodbey told Eleven Warriors.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder is rated as the third-best safety and the No. 32 prospect overall in the Class of 2018. He holds nearly 20 offers from programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oklahoma, but Ohio State, UCLA, USC and Washington are presumed to be the front-runners.

Woodbey has not been to Columbus, so the Buckeyes are at a serious disadvantage in his recruitment - his uncle played at USC and therefore attends every home game. But with teammate and good friend Wyatt Davis in the fold, the staff is certainly anticipating his official visit next fall.
