V.J. King, 6-foot-5 SF/SG, Akron (Ohio). St. Vincent-St. Mary (2016) - Talk about a high-level wing prospect, King looks to have the entire package. He's a good athlete, he can create off the dribble, he has a great frame and he's already a standout pull-up jump shooter. He's a pretty good passer and rebounds as well.

Needing time

In the state of Ohio, and around the country, there are already very high hopes for freshman V.J. King.

A 6-foot-5 wing at Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary, King is an impressive-looking prospect who has both skill and athleticism. King can handle the ball pretty well, is an excellent jump-shooter off the dribble and has a natural way about making plays on both ends of the floor.

King has an ideal frame for a wing and is pretty good laterally. But again, he's just a freshman and our hope is that expectations for him don't get out of control even though he looks likely to be five-star prospect.

King will need to learn to attack the rim a little more and to not settle as much for deep jumpers. But, the feel for how to attack defenders and mix things up will come with time and his instincts are great.

So far, King reports scholarship offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin, UNC Greensboro, Charlotte and Iowa State and more are likely to come.

With those offers will come more expectations but hopefully people will be reasonable and remember that while talented, King will still have some growing pains.

He's still a freshman, but get used to reading an awful lot about 6-foot-5 wing V.J. King. The 2016 product from Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent St. Mary's is a very good 12- to 17-foot jump shooter with a high-level frame. He creates easily off of the dribble, is an athlete and plays both ends of the floor. King is one of the nation's premier freshmen and played to his lofty reputation.

King was no slouch for Akron SVSM, scoring 22 points with seven rebounds and three assists in the overtime loss. The freshman has grown to a legitimate 6-foot-6 since the start of the school year and is one of the most versatile prospects in his class. He has the ability to play the point guard, shooting guard or small forward spot. An athletic scoring wing who has great vision as a passer, King can make plays all over the court on the offensive end, and excels at creating space off of the dribble.

The freshman has also improved his shooting stroke, which with his size and length is very tough to defend. Coaches from West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio State were in the gym to watch King, who already claims offers from Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State and several others.

Freshman VJ King shot just 7-for-19 from the floor but scored 14 points to go with 10 rebounds.

â€œIt wasnâ€™t a bad game, but 7-of-19 is not efficient,â€ Joyce said. â€œYouâ€™ve got to be efficient. And heâ€™ll get better. When we needed a basket in the second half, we got on him to get to the rim. We need to be doing that more, and weâ€™ll continue to work on it.â€
