I remember when Matt Ryan was coming out and the people couldn't understand how a QB who threw 37 Int's in his college career could be a 1st round pick. One of the draft guru's (not Kiper or McShay) was showing some film and pointed out where bad receivers running bad routes contributed to well over half of those. I'd say Matty Ice has turned out okay.
Oh...And Isaiah Prince graded out as the worst overall offensive lineman in the entire country...That has to have somewhat of an effect on a QB. Wouldn't you think?
JT took 5 less sacks this year than he did in 2014. That oline did some magical things wouldn't you say?
JT was always on the move this year. Him taking less sacks while having the worst Tackle in college football is a testament to JT.
Based on the numbers he could have not played again after his freshman year & it'd be arguable.. QB play has been collectively... garbage to put it nicely... through OSU's history.
Just for the record: I'm glad JT came back. JT is our starter, and a really good one. I don't think he is free from criticism or his starting position should be set in stone, I'm open to the idea that a better option could emerge. I would name a few, but I'm not going to put forth the effort of argument. I will just say that I don't believe JT is the best Ohio State quarterback ever, and leave it there.
I'm not ready to call JT the best ever at Ohio State. Last year really hurt him. 2015 was handled poorly by Meyer and we can say that 2016 is on Beck/Warriner and the WR's. Now, with that said, if JT comes out and throws for say 3,300 yards 31 TD's and rushes for 700 yards and 9 TD's, goes 12-1 and beats TTUN, which seems like very realistic expectations, he will finish with the following: Passing - 9,681 yards (1st by over 2,000) 100 TD's (1st by 43) Rushing - 3,165 yards (8th overall) 40 TD's (5th overall) Total - 12,846 yards (1st in B1G history passing Drew Brees) 140 TD's (1st in B1G history by 36 passing Drew Brees) Record - 38-5 (1st in Ohio State history) Record vs TTUN - 4-0 (Only Ohio State QB to ever go 4-0 against TTUN) So yeah, if JT has a slightly better season than he had as a Freshman, he will smash every Ohio State record and some BigTen records. I'd say that's pretty good.
You guys can stop arguing about the greatest OSU QB ever. My son hasn't been born yet, but when he is he will lead OSU to a perfect 60-0 record, 4 NC, break EVERY QB record, and be so good NFL teams will hold gladiator battles to see how gets the #1 pick.....So you got that to look forward to in the future......YOU'RE WELCOME HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
It is my personal opinion he is light years ahead of everyone else on the roster who is a quarterback.......... It is also the opinion of Urban Meyer and Kevin Wilson..........who see each quarterback daily and evaluate them in practice........but hey lets just throw out a kid who has never thrown a pass in real game........ I just believe that we lost a ton when Tom Herman left....both Cardale and JT struggled..........with Wilson here I believe we see immediate progression........ Coaching actually matters in college......... I don't see it that way. I see it has needing an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach.............Urban made that happen. My guess is the play of JT will be vastly improved but please keep doubting him and blame him for the struggles on offense at times during the last two years..........the quarterback is a convenient scapegoat for multiple issues on offense. Do not try to use common sense with the portion of Buckeye nation who refuse to see the MULTIPLE factors of why the offense has struggled since Herman left, the factors do include quarterback play to be clear but it is not the sole factor. We threw it 65 more times this year than in 2014........ I cannot wait to look back at these posts come next December........
Does not matter what he has done on the field, Dwayne Haskins has won over half the fan base due to bowl practice reports and getting 3rd string snaps in the spring hence proving his worth.
One note about Haskins for everyone who is not aware.......... He is not a read option quarterback and is a passer............ More Cardale than JT...............that might be a problem for an offense built on the read option........ Change may have to come after this year....
This is why I trust Wilson with Barrett. I also don't believe making a change at the most important position with what this team has coming back on offense and the fact that JT has been a leader ever since he got on campus. I think benching him would be bad for team moral and i'm sure the coaching staff is more concerned with that than what a bunch of geeks on message boards like ourselves think.
Again, I trust Urban and Wilson in that matter. Adjustments were made when Cardale took over in 2014, also consider Alex Smith when he and Urban were at Utah. Alex Smith was an athletic QB with SOME mobility but wasn't a read option QB either and look at the season they had in 2004.
