I've said it since he signed. I've never though Martell would start here or play significant time. With Day taking over that's a real chance.
Tate was perfect for Urban’s offense. Better passer and runner than JT. Although he doesn’t read the defense nearly as well as JT did. JT was close to perfect at that. With that said, I think people underestimate Tate as a passer. He could still be a great player, even in Day’s offense. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Baldwin beats him out. That’s Day’s guy. Similar to JT was Urban’s guy. But if Martell transfers, I hope we never have to plate him. He’s talented!

I think he would be the worst QB prospect outside of Todd Boeckman to start for TOSU in over a decade. Troy, Pryor, Braxton, Cardile, JT, and Haskins were light years ahead of him IMO. I think Martell is a huge step in the wrong direction, which is a scary proposition with Meyer leaving. Justin Fields is on par if not better than all the players I listed IMO.
I know we like to claim "DB University" since we produce so many pro defensive backs, but damn that's a hell of a list of college quarterbacks. Even Boeckman was 1st team All-B1G and led us to a national championship game
It’s not bad, but I think Day will really take our QBs to the next level. I just don’t think Martell is on the level we should be at. I felt the same about Joe Burrow. He’s good, but we’re Ohio State ffs. We should be going for elite talent at QB just like we do for every other position on the field.
It's fair to feel that way about Burrow, he wasn't even a top 250 recruit, came from a small (bad) high school conference and his second-best offer was WVU. Tate is in a different world than Joe. He was a top 5 QB with offers from Alabama and USC. I'll respect the "Fields is better" argument all day, but the "Fields is to Martel is the same as Haskins is to Burrow" isn't fair in my opinion. Martel is an elite talent. Burrow is the white athlete cliche: grinder, coaches son, sneaky athletic, smart. (I still love you though Joe).

Ryan Day said today that if Michael Jordan returns next season for his senior year, the plan right now would be for Jordan to move back to guard, while Josh Myers would be first in line to start at center next season. Day said that Josh Myers actually spent some time with the first-team offensive line at center, with Michael Jordan at left guard, during bowl practices because Malcolm Pridgeon missed some time with a finger injury. Pridgeon was back practicing with the Buckeyes this week.
I haven’t seen anything from Tate that reads as ‘Elite.’ I don’t see a professional career ahead of him, and I don’t think he has the size to be an effective runner. Fields is better than Tate. Christian Bryant is better than Tate. I just don’t see what’s wrong with calling a spade a spade. He is a mid-tier talent at best who has shown us nothing to suggest that he is/will be elite. I can’t imsgine Tate getting us to a National Championdhip.
We won a national title with Krenzel at quarterback. It takes more than just a quarterback. I think he can be a very good college quarterback...….there is no guarantee that Fields will be coming to Ohio State...…..
Let the QB competition begin! Don’t rule out Baldwin. The best will start (Haskins if he doesn’t move on, Tate, Baldwin...Fields if he transfers in). The best will start. Go Bucks
