» 2008 Buckeye Football Preview - away from the obvious |

Good morning Buckeye fans.
It’s College Football season – finally. Finally we have Buckeye football every Saturday, finally we will wake up to The Best Damn Band in the Land, OH and subsequent IO's, the Buckeye Battle Cry and Hang on Sloopy. Finally, Ohio State Buckeye football 2008 is here.
Key Players – Lawrence Wilson and Chimdi Chekwa, Todd Boeckman, Ryan Pretorius.
I’m picking two defensive players this year. Lawrence Wilson is Ohio State’s dark horse in 2008 – a junior who took a medical redshirt after a broken leg and then passed on the title game last season to keep a year of eligibility. Wilson was supposed to put up Gholston-like numbers, and this yeah he’ll have to replace him. Combining with 6’6 Sophomore Cameron Hayward, the D-line has to make up for 14 sacks and arguably the most feared pass-rusher in college football from 2007. Don’t be surprised to see Wilson get off to a fast start in 2008 – his hunger is second to none.
Chekwa, other than having a fun name to pronounce, was always around the ball and may be undervalued with the likes of Jenkins and Washington around him. Chekwa is a plus sized corner at 6’1, and with the entire secondary still intact, Chekwa emerging as an underclassmen start could push this defense over the top. Chekwa will also play a mammoth role on Sept. 13th against USC, as he’ll be the only corner aside from Jenkins to start a game while Washington serves a two game... [Read More]

BEAT YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Youngstown St. at #2 Ohio State
August 30th - 12:00 PM ET
Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH
TV: Big Ten Network
It's football season baby! Kickoff Saturday is scheduled with many great games but none may be as important as YSU vs. OSU on Aug. 30th. Less than 2 days away! Yes, this may not be a "marquee" match up but it's still very important as our players and coaches look to get rolling in high gear in the much anticipated Sept. 13th game at USC.
The Buckeyes open up the 2008 season with something that has been lacking in recent years, Senior Leadership. This 2008 team is loaded with 4th and 5th year seniors and return 18 total starters, 9 on both sides of the ball.
Here is a quick look at each teams premier offensive players with 2007 stats.
The Ohio State Buckeyes:
- QB #17 Todd Boeckman - 191-299 for 2379 yds, 64% completions, 25 TDs and 14 INTs. Passer rating of 148.95.
- RB #28 Chris "Beanie" Wells - 274 attempts for 1609 yds, 5.9 AVG, 15 TDs
- WR #80 Brian Robiskie - 55 rec. for 935 yds, 17 yd AVG, and 11 TDs.
- WR #9 Brian Hartline - 52 rec. for 694 yds, 13.3 yd AVG, and 6

Former Buckeye forward, Othello Hunter, received good news Friday that his long time dream of making it to the NBA was finally coming true. The Atlanta Hawks have signed Hunter to a contract "guaranteeing him half of the NBA's minimum salary for rookies, or $221,057... Hunter is guaranteed the full minimum of $442,114 if he's on the Hawks' roster Dec. 15th."
In his senior season for the Buckeyes, Hunter averaged 9.9 points a game, 6.5 rebounds and earning honorable mention in the Big Ten.
Quote:
When David Lee (Hunter's agent) called him Thursday to tell him the Hawks would be sending him the contract by overnight mail, "I started screaming in the car," Hunter said. "My best friend from junior college looked at me like I was crazy.
"I'm kind of blown away about it, like … 'My dream finally came true.'

ScarletBuckeye.com and Buckeye fans from all over would like to congradulate Othello Hunter on his journey to the Atlanta Hawks.
