J.B. Shugarts and Mike Adams Done For the Year
Ohio State's offensive line certainly hasn't played up to par this season and the following news won't help that matter. Coach Tressel announced this afternoon that both freshman lineman, J.B. Shugarts and Mike Adams, will be shut down for the remainder of the season. Tressel says Shugarts has been "plagued by a shoulder problem" whereas big Mike Adams injured his foot in last weeks Purdue game.
Certainly isn't good news for us Buckeye fans, but, both are expected to be at full strength for next season.
Some good news being reported.... RB Boom Herron who suffered a concussion in the Wisconsin game could be ready to play this Saturday. However, Tressel throws us a curve ball and says "Herron will not play against the Spartans." The good news is that he's getting better and will play soon.
The Buckeyes visit #20 Michigan State (6-1, 3-0) this Saturday and will kick things off at 3:30 PM ET. You can view the game on ABC .... view the coverage map. We hope that you join us in our pre-game and post-game discussions as we talk about this exciting match up!

Man I really hope these guys don't become career injury guys. On the positive side, I bet both of these guys get a medical redshirt for this season.
Good to hear boom is ready to go, and I'm also happy they are waiting an extra week. No reason to risk it with something like a head injury.

Anyone know for sure if these guys get medical redshirts? If so then the loss isn't as bad, since I don't see either of them being vital contributors this year.

I don't believe they are eligible for a medical redshirt. Here's what I found explaining the redshirt....
Quote:
|
To receive a medical hardship waiver - in any sport - the injury must limit the student-athlete’s participation to no more than 20 percent of the team’s contests (rounded to the next whole number), with all participation occurring in the first half of the season.
|
I couldn't find how many games they have played in though. I have a gut feeling it's more than 3 each (which would be over the 20% mark.)

What would "participation" be though? Did you participate in a whole game if you got in a snap or two?

If a player is in on one play then that takes part of playing in a game. The number of plays you were in on is irrelevant.
i.e. Player x (an incoming freshman) came into the season redshirted. Halfway through the season player x needs to play due to some wild circumstance. Once he steps onto the field his redshirt status is burned. Even if it's for one play (or 30) he has played.
That example may have made it confusing but that's the best way I can explain it.

Tressel has stated that neither will be eligible to redshirt. They both played in part of 5 games. Hate to see this.

Damn, I didn't realize how much Adams had gotten in.
Well it probably won't matter anyways because if they really are that good I doubt we would get 5 years out of them with a medical RS, so we'll have them for 4 years total either way.
