Anyone see how great Temple played in their bowl game? Steve Adazio and Co won't be there long! Can't believe Penn St is not considering them. At least yet!!!!

Ohio State football: Bruce’s grandson joins coaching staff
By Bill Rabinowitz
The Columbus DispatchFriday December 23, 2011 6:00 AM
Zach Smith grew up dreaming of following the career path of his grandfather, former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce.
That Smith, at age 27, was offered a job this week to be the Buckeyes’ wide receivers coach would have been cause for elation no matter the timing.
But that it happened this week added to the poignancy.
Bruce’s wife, Jean, died on Dec. 16. Smith couldn’t be with his grandmother then because he was at Saturday’s New Mexico Bowl as an assistant for Temple.
“It was really tough being at the bowl game when she passed away,” Smith said yesterday after his hiring at Ohio State became official. “I spoke to her the day she passed away. I’m really grateful I was able to do that, at least.”
After the game, Smith flew to Columbus to be with his family.
“I spoke at her funeral and gave the eulogy,” he said. “It was probably the hardest thing I’ve done in my life.”
New Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer, who considers Bruce a second father, has known Smith his whole life. At his grandfather’s urging, Smith became a walk-on at Bowling Green after graduating from Dublin Coffman just to soak in Meyer’s knowledge. Smith later followed Meyer to Florida to become a quality-control assistant and then a graduate assistant.
When Meyer talked with Smith last week, the conversation centered on his grandmother, not a potential job. But then the offer came.
“It was never about the job until the last couple days,” Smith said. “Then we talked and it became a reality. It was kind of a fast-moving deal.
“It’s positive and uplifting news for our family at a time that has been a sad time. It’s been a really tough week, but at the same time an amazing week.”
Smith will be in charge of a wide receivers unit that has struggled this season. Sophomore Corey Brown led all Buckeyes wide receivers with only 14 catches. Freshman Devin Smith led the team in receiving yards with just 247. The only upperclassman among the receivers is DeVier Posey, a senior who missed the first 10 games because of NCAA suspension.
“I’ve heard we have talented kids in the program,” Smith said. “We’re going to really take this offense to where we had it at Florida — one of the best in the country.”
At Florida, Smith coached such NFL stars as Percy Harvin and Aaron Hernandez.
“Zach Smith has already coached with me for five seasons, and so I know what a quality coach he is,” Meyer said in a statement. “He knows my system inside and out and he teaches the system the way I want it to be taught.”

It certainly does, Temple has been a very improved team on both sides of the ball the last couple seasons... and their defense this year was especially good. Man, I'm so freaking excited!!! I can't wait for September! Hoke and the scUMmers are not going to be ready for their trip into the Shoe this Thanksgiving weekend. As Obie pointed out in a different thread a few weeks ago... with the Buckeyes having a Bowl Ban next season Michigan is our bowl game and there's no way in hell the Buckeyes are going to let themselves lose that game.
Smith has done great work the last couple seasons with Temple's WR corp and with the talent disparity between Temple and tOSU... I think Miller is going to have a much improved field of WRs to throw to this year. We've already seen that Devin Smith and Evan Spencer can make some incredibly athletic catches... I can't wait to see how those two and the rest of the receivers progress under Smith, Herman and Meyer come the Spring Game, let alone next season.
