Makes even more sense with how aggressively Meyer's going after top DE/DT prospects. Vrabel will be coaching a whole pack of athletic and aggressive linemen that will play very much the same way he did at tOSU. I love that Meyer is starting out his Buckeyes coaching tree with some great former players that know the game very well and understand full well what it means to be a Buckeye, on and off the field. Is it September 1st yet?

This makes SO much more sense than him coaching LBs, imo.

Quote:
When Mike Vrabel signed on as an assistant football coach at Ohio State last July, many observers assumed he was doing a favor for his close friend Luke Fickell, the interim OSU coach. Some also wondered how long Vrabel, a three-time Super Bowl winner with seemingly little tolerance for those not inspired to play, could last as a college assistant.
But he flourished, and in one area in particular: recruiting. New coach Urban Meyer, who views recruiting as the No. 1 value of an assistant coach, let Vrabel do his thing. In the process, Vrabel helped land defensive linemen Tommy Schutt and Noah Spence, two of the jewels of OSU’s highly ranked class.
Meyer also moved Vrabel from coaching linebackers to the defensive line, where Jim Heacock had tutored since 1995. No doubt Meyer wants to see his defensive line play with the same aggressiveness and cunning Vrabel used during his 13 seasons as a defensive end in the NFL.
