There has to be a way to give those mid-major conference winners a shot at the NC.

Not really until they start ditching conferance schedules and playing the big dogs. Not fare really but what can you do about it?

The biggest problem with those teams is that the BCS conference teams refuse to play them. Hawaii got ditched by three people and refused by everyone when they tried to schedule. Supposedly part of it is that the BCS formula punishes teams more for losses to non BCS conference teams, and people have figured it out.
