Winners
Ohio State
Jared Sullinger was the best big man in the country this season, and he'll be the top low-post scorer next season, too. Throughout the season, the Ohio State freshman told the Buckeyes coaching staff he would return for his sophomore season. So far, he has honored his word. The Buckeyes are a top-five team next season because Sullinger will be the anchor inside.

If we can play him away from the basket a little bit more next season, that will open up the lane more for our slashers (Buford, Craft, Sibert, Scott, Thompson) to get to the basket and Sully has proven to be a good distributer of the rock, especially in double team situations.

I hope that everybody that watched the McDonalds All American game and saw an uninterested Amir Williams dont put too much stock in that effert, or lack of effert. Amir typically seems motivated and when he gets to C-Bus, coach Matta will have him getting his body ready for Big10 b-ball. he really needs to pack on some weight so he can hold down the center position to benifit sully. if Matta plays him 4 seperate 4 min spurts at center next season, i think that would be more than enough to ask out of A-Will.

I didn't watch the AA game, maybe you could give me some insight...
If you're really a top player in the country don't you want to showcase and make sure you look like the top player in the country against some of the best HS talent?
I'm not knocking his ability and I'm sure once Matta coaches him up he'll be fine.
BTW, welcome to our site!

Williams suffered an eye injury in the week of practice preceeding the AA game which didnt help his case. It was mostly an up and down fastbreak type of flow throughout the game, typical of an all star game, and Williams got caught drifting back and forth down the court appearing disinterested. These types of games are typically gaurd oriented (that's why Shannon Scott looked so impressive) so none of the bigs really stood out other than the Davis kid that is headind to Kentucky.
From the other videos that i've seen of Amir and from what most experts say about him, he has a desire to get better and work on his body, which will be very important so he can handle the rigors of the B1G play. What makes him special is he has the quicks of a wing player and he times his blocks well, staying out of foul trouble. Should see some early playing time with the departure of Dallas.

Yes, I was surprised about the negative uproar after the McGame about Amir Williams because he didn't look as bad to me as most people indicated. I think more than anything, most people were disappointed in his lack of intensity to attack the glass. He seemed to be going through the motions even though he knew that it was a national televised game.
In a more traditional year (next year even), he wouldn't have been a McD AA. There is just a true lack of 5* Center recruits in the 2011 class. He is a work in progress but I really like his game. He has to develop his offensive game- right now he simply shoots over smaller players in HS and dunks above the rim on oops and fast breaks. He will be a starting center at tOSU by his soph season IMO. He's got game!

Practice facility update
Our weekly "Ask the Experts" feature in the Sports section had another inquiry Sunday about "how close the university (is) to green-lighting the construction of the proposed practice facility? Are we talking months or years before starting construction, and is the program falling behind other basketball powers?"
My response:
"Because all funds for the project have to be raised before it starts, the athletic department decided last year to downsize the project and split it in two to hasten the start of construction. As of (last) week, $9.7 million of the $10.4 million needed to start the first phase (new gym, locker rooms, training area) has been raised, according to senior associate athletic director Ben Jay. When that target is hit, a new design will be commissioned. The earliest construction could begin, Jay said, is after next basketball season.
