Ohio State men's basketball: Turner relishes chance to play point
Matta might use versatile sophomore more in that role

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Evan Turner smiled when it was noted how often he brought the ball up the court and initiated the offense against Purdue on Tuesday night.

"I've always wanted to play point guard," said Turner, a 6-foot-7 sophomore who leads the Ohio State men's basketball team in points, rebounds, assists and steals, not to mention turnovers.

"I grew up playing point guard. I just think it's fun, really fun, to be able to come off ball screens and create and make your teammates better.

"I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to play point guard further down the line with this team."

Further down the line might be no farther.

Turner needs to handle the ball better, but besides that his game is awesome.

if he moves to the point, where does that put everyone else?

Turner is not moving to point guard full time.............you will continue to see him bring the ball up when needed........his turnovers are something Matta will tolerate..........he is that kind of player........the good with the bad so to speak.........

OSU's Turner turns into MVP candidate

Jay LaPrete/Associated Press
OSU's Evan Turner, right, has averaged 23 points per game and shot 58 percent from the field over his past five contests.

Columbus -- There's a nickname that followed Evan Turner through his freshman basketball season at Ohio State, muttered under the breath of onlookers whenever he made another move and his actions didn't match his idea.
Evan Turnover.

Away from home for the first time, unsure that Ohio State was the right place for him, admittedly never comfortable with his new life until his freshman season was over, Turner on the court at times wobbled like a fawn finding his legs.

Now in his sophomore season, there's another nickname, one Turner's older brother Richard shouts from the stands like he always has whenever he recognizes his brother is ready to ignite.

Evan Takeover.

"I don't know if he knows that," Richard Turner said, "but I started that when he was younger. Wherever the ball was, that's where Evan was."
