Winless Eastern Michigan next up for No. 2 Buckeyes
Published: Monday, September 20, 2010

COLUMBUS (AP) — So you thought the 43-7 thrashing of Ohio was lopsided?
Wait until this week. Several numbers orbiting the Eastern Michigan football program’s 0-3 start hardly point to a spirited contest with the Buckeyes at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Horseshoe.
In losses to Army (31-27), Miami (Ohio) (28-21) and Central Michigan (52-14), the Eagles have surrendered 1,242 yards, 111 points and an average of 6.3 yards per opposing play. Also, they’ve turned the ball over eight times.
One thing’s for certain: When Jim Tressel holds his weekly news conference on Tuesday, he’ll lavish praise on Eastern’s punting. The Eagles are averaging almost 44 yards in that area.

Ohio State enjoyed its first penalty-free game on Saturday since John Cooper’s coaching debut in 1988.

55-10
I'm giving them one TD from a special teams mistake...seems a given these days.

OSU ready for another underdog

COLUMBUS — It’s easy for teams to get excited about playing a ranked opponent, a league foe or a big rival.
Yet for the second week in a row No. 2 Ohio State must focus on a heavy underdog that is just hoping to avoid getting squashed.
Still, the team walking into that situation at Ohio Stadium on Saturday is well aware the Buckeyes will have their minds on the task at hand.
“I’ve been there where you have some games sandwiched around some, quote unquote, bigger games,” said Eastern Michigan head coach Ron English, winless in his 15 games at the school after assistant-coaching stints at Michigan, Louisville and Arizona State. “With the staff they have, coach (Jim) Tressel and his coaches have been doing this a long time. They’ve got a really good football team. They’re going to be ready to play.”
The Buckeyes appeared to be fully attentive to overmatched Ohio University on Saturday, a game which kicked off a string of four straight matchups against teams with a decided disadvantage in talent. Eastern Michigan is a 42 1/2-point underdog.

Rebuilding the Eagles
Coach strives to rejuvenate down-and-out Eastern Michigan

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Progress for Ron English is measured now in gains only he and those in his circle of influence can appreciate.
"I can't remember one game last year when we were within seven (points) with a possession to go," said English, coach of the Eastern Michigan team that will drag a 15-game losing streak into its game against Ohio State on Saturday.
In their first two games this season, the Eagles led Army with less than three minutes remaining before giving up a winning touchdown drive and came up short with a drive of their own in the final minutes against Miami University.
"We're seeing some progress," English, a former Michigan defensive coordinator, said yesterday. "I just have to understand where this place is coming from and where we're trying to take it and to keep moving forward not get caught up in the circumstances."
