He's a legit 6'3"/230 and I'm sure he could bulk up to 245 or so in the mold of Sabino/Curtis Grant body type. He'd be able to block on the line and catch the ball in space.
Same with Josh Perry.

Can Smith make it to practice on time next year to learn a new position?
Go Bucks!

Ohio State notebook: Freshman Smith not with team
By Bill Rabinowitz
The Columbus DispatchSaturday December 31, 2011 6:11 AM
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ohio State running back Rod Smith missed the team charter flight on Tuesday and is not with the team as it prepares for the Gator Bowl against Florida.
The redshirt freshman’s status for Monday’s game and his long-term future with the Buckeyes is unknown. His absence from the team flight was a surprise. If a player does not fly with the team, it is his responsibility to get to the bowl site.
Smith saw limited playing time this season. The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder from Fort Wayne, Ind., had a chance early in the season to stake a claim for more as Carlos Hyde’s backup when Daniel Herron and Jordan Hall began the season on NCAA suspension.
But Smith fumbled twice, including once late in the Toledo game that the Rockets recovered. Toledo drove deep inside OSU territory before Ohio State held to preserve the victory.
For the season, Smith ran 29 times for 116 yards and scored one touchdown. He played on special teams and briefly saw time in practice as a linebacker when injuries hit that unit.
Though Herron will graduate, Smith’s chances for extended playing time next year are not a given. Blue-chip prospects Bri’onte Dunn and Warren Ball are expected to join Hall and Hyde on the roster.

Definitely a good sign.
Any news on why he didn't travel to the Bowl?

Tim May@TIM_MAYsportsReply
Among those buying in to Meyer ways at Ohio State, insiders say, is RB Rod Smith. Missed flight to Gator, but showing up at 6 a.m. in Feb
